Phalaenopsis

This genus has 50 different varieties. Last 20 years it has become a very popular plant and it is often called the queen of the living room. This is due to the development of multiplying and growing methods of the past years. The Phalaenopsis is originally from Asia. Manly the areas like India, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia New-Guinea en North-Australia.

The name is diverted of Phalaina =night butterfly and opsis= looks like. In the thirties they have made more than a thousand crossings. The Phalaenopsis offers a wide range of colours, shapes and sizes. Because of the difference in heights in the original areas (were the Phalaenopsis normally grows) was it possible to make beautiful crossings. These crossings were able to cultivate with lower temperatures if you compare this with the earlier crossings. This resulted in making a better product for the consumer.
